Foundations of Gerontology Assignment
(AGPCNP) applies evidence to provide patient-centered quality care to adults and older adult population. While performing the role, adult-gerontology NP combines theoretical, scientific and modern-day clinical knowledge for the assessment and management of patient health and illness. The core competencies required in their practice are divided into seven domains, essential for every NP. They include: health promotion, health protection, disease prevention and treatment; Nurse practitioner-patient relationship; teaching- coaching function; professional role; managing and negotiating health care delivery systems; monitoring and ensuring quality of health care practice; cultural and spiritual competence (AACN, 2011).
In addition to acquiring the essential competencies, the AGPCNP must obtain the required certification in order to practice. The AGPCNP board certification examination is completed through the ANCC and it tests the NP competency and provides a valid and reliable assessment of the entry-level clinical knowledge and skills.
